Introducing The Ski Erg!
As many of you may have seen during your weekly visit to our gym, FLEXX Fitness has acquired a new piece of workout equipment! We are excited to announce that we will be adding the SkiErg to both group fitness and personal training sessions. Now, many of you may be thinking to yourselves, what is a SkiErg and what does it do for my fitness?
A SkiErg is a valuable educational fitness tool that helps clients learn proper movement mechanics, cardiovascular conditioning, and full-body coordination. By simulating the double-poling motion used in cross-country skiing, it teaches efficient use of the upper body, core, and lower body in a rhythmic, low-impact way. SkiErgs also allow learners to explore concepts such as pacing, power output, and energy systems, making them useful for lessons in exercise science, endurance training, and functional fitness. It is used by standing in front of the machine and pulling two handles downward in a coordinated, rhythmic motion that mimics cross-country ski poling. The movement begins with the arms extended overhead, followed by a strong pull using the shoulders, arms, and core while hinging slightly at the hips and bending the knees. After each pull, the handles are guided back up under control to repeat the motion smoothly. Users can adjust the resistance and monitor performance data such as time, distance, stroke rate, and power output on the display. This allows the SkiErg to be used for technique practice, steady cardiovascular workouts, interval training, and skill development. Because it is low impact and easy to scale, it can be safely used by beginners while still providing an effective workout for advanced users.
Our training staff is working on adding the SkiErg to group classes and personal training but if you’re curious about trying it out next time you're in the gym, don't hesitate to ask a staff member to show you how it works so you can give it a try!
